Miami

Celebrating Spring→Summer 2021 in the least locked-down state

In the context of the 2021 lockdown, some uni friends and I itched for some classic fun. We explored travel ideas in the Caribbean, but island travel was complicated by quarantine issues. We had all been slyly fantasizing about Miami - its heat, sexiness and libertarian attitude. So we assembled from New York and California to celebrate life.

Wednesday, May 26
Flying to Miami from Los Angeles with Harmony; Anna flew from San Francisco and met us at 1 HOTEL SOUTH BEACH. We had dinner at the rooftop restaurant WATR, then an evening stroll around Collins Ave and the beach. Low-key first night. Insomnia. I watched High Fidelity.

Thursday, May 27
Late morning at the 1 HOTEL main pool with Anna and Harmony. Raj arrives from NYC. Rooftop pool scene, beach.

Thursday, May 27
Anna, Raj and I went to ARTECHOUSE on Collins Ave, then strolled through South Beach. The art deco architecture and neon lights really make an impression.

Thursday, May 27
Brynn’s flight from Greater New York arrived in the evening. We convened at the hotel bar, then went to NOBU for a late dinner. Our local friend Lex took us to some great parties at Astra and ATV Records.

Friday, May 28
We moved hotels, to the EDITION, and relaxed by the pool. This place is exquisite; more stylish and less busy. A scene still, but a more refined one.

Friday, May 28
We rented a boat for the day. We cruised the South Channel and Biscayne Bay, loving life.

Friday, May 28
Night out in the Design District, Dinner at COTE

Saturday, May 29
Poolside / Beachside at the EDITION. I flirted with some girls.

Saturday, May 29
Night out at a party at the OASIS. This was a great rave; I didn’t take enough pictures. I was quite high, and also missed an opportunity for some magic…

Sunday, May 30
Lounge day at the EDITION - much needed rest. We managed a nice bike ride down to South Pointe Park Pier

Sunday, May 30
One of Harmony’s favorite artists, Moodyman, was serendipitously spinning at a this random venue by the airport, the 94th Aero Squadron. The night peaked at club E11even, where we partied into the morning.

Monday, May 31
Last day of relaxation at the EDITION. Cubana sandwiches delivered, finally. Ocean water fully appreciated.

Monday, May 31
Chill night out at nearby FAENA - a classy way to end things. Bleary all-nighter before a red-eye back to LA
